Students, professors have mixed opinions on targeted advertising

Think back to the last time you browsed a social media site such as Facebook or Twitter. The ads these sites use will sometimes include a product you previously searched for on Google or looked at on Amazon.com. If you’ve used a computer anytime recently, odds are you’ve been subjected to targeted advertising. This type of advertising happens when companies track users’ browsing habits in order to offer them relevant and personalized ads.
Dr. Jooyoung Kim, an advertising professor at the University of Georgia, said that targeted advertising has been around for decades.
