NAI Shares Goals of WA Health Data Law

WASHINGTON, DC (April 27, 2023) – The NAI released the following statement by President & CEO Leigh Freund on Washington State’s My Health My Data Act, signed into law today:

“The NAI shares the goals of the My Health My Data Act, to protect consumers’ sensitive health data. In many ways, the requirements of this new law align closely with the existing requirements of the NAI Code of Conduct and our guidance on sensitive health data. 

In areas where this law creates new requirements for businesses, the NAI will work with its members, their partners, and all stakeholders to promote best practices for digital advertising businesses to comply.

We also look forward to working with regulators to clarify ambiguity in the law’s broad private right of action that can be used by entrepreneurial trial lawyers to punish even responsible companies with strong privacy practices.”
