FTC Director Jessica Rich to Headline Upcoming NAI Summit
We are thrilled to announce that Jessica Rich, director of the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, will join us for a “fireside chat” at the 2016 NAI Summit on April 13 in San Francisco.
Ms. Rich is a well-respected expert in privacy and data protection whose appointment as bureau director at the FTC in 2013 was widely seen as a signal of the FTC’s continued focus on consumer privacy as a priority. She is a key regulator for our industry who has built the FTC’s privacy program from a small team to one of the agency’s signature projects.
In her current role, Ms. Rich oversees a staff of more than 450 attorneys, investigators, and support personnel working to stop fraud and deceptive advertising, protect privacy, and promote compliance with the consumer protection laws.
Her remarks will be especially relevant for Summit attendees who are focused on emerging technologies and cross-device advertising. Ms. Rich launched the FTC’s first initiatives involving mobile technologies, and has significantly expanded its work around mobile apps, mobile payments, social networks, and other new platforms. With several Summit panels dedicated to new technologies and the ways in which they intersect with our daily lives, Ms. Rich’s remarks will provide an interesting and timely kickoff for the event.
Ms. Rich has often noted that there is room for government and industry to work together to address the important issues around data collection and its use for digital advertising. She has commended our industry for taking strides to provide more choices for consumers. In particular, she praised NAI’s recent sensitive health standards because of our careful and thorough definition of “sensitive.”
We are looking forward to hearing from Ms. Rich in April. We hope you’ll join us for what is sure to be a an excellent start to a great event. Register today.
PS: Stay tuned for more Summit announcements soon!
