The NAI Announces Leadership Changes
Washington, D.C. [06/24/2026] — The President & CEO of the NAI (Network Advertising Initiative), Leigh Freund, announced plans to leave the organization as of July 2, after more than 11 years at the helm of the leading self-regulatory association for the ad-tech industry. The NAI Board is undergoing a search for new leadership and is pleased to have NAI senior executives David LeDuc, Vice President of Public Policy, and Tony Ficarrotta, Vice President and General Counsel, managing day-to-day operations during this transition.
For over a decade at the NAI, Leigh has been a trusted voice among industry executives, U.S. policymakers, and in the media, tirelessly promoting the essential role of ad-tech companies across the digital advertising ecosystem. Whether speaking to members of Congress, the FTC, or with industry leaders, Leigh’s expertise and strategic vision have shaped the industry permanently and prepared NAI’s members for the future.
Founded in 2000, the NAI is the longest-standing self-regulatory body in the digital advertising industry, setting the baseline expectations for how ad-tech companies collect and use data for advertising. Under Leigh’s leadership, the NAI adapted to major legal and regulatory changes through the creation of a new model for how self-regulation can thrive and promote industry compliance with strong data privacy laws at the state and federal levels.
The NAI’s mandate remains unchanged, it will continue to represent the ad-tech industry through three core mission pillars:
- Guidance: Providing practical resources to help companies navigate complex legal and compliance landscapes.
- Advocacy: Engaging policymakers to promote laws and regulations that protect consumer privacy while sustaining data-driven advertising.
- Education: Fostering a culture where strong privacy practices are viewed as essential for long-term business trust and success.
In announcing her departure, Leigh stated the following:
“It has been a true honor and pleasure to represent this dynamic industry over the last 11 years. I’m energized by what we’ve built, and proud of the role the NAI has played in shaping the ad-tech industry during a decade of unprecedented change driven by a new legal landscape. The NAI steered its members by helping them adapt their practices, an exercise that required nimbleness, credibility, and pragmatism. The NAI also established itself as the leading representative for the ad-tech industry before policymakers and regulators, a key role that will continue to be at the core of the NAI. To the NAI’s talented staff, dedicated Board, and member companies who put their trust in this organization: thank you. It has been the honor of my career to lead this work alongside you.”
“As the NAI’s Board Chair, I’m grateful to Leigh for over a decade of excellence in helping to guide the NAI during these transformative years,” said Alan Chapell. “We’re proud of what’s been accomplished during her tenure at the NAI, and we’re excited to see what Leigh does next.”
The NAI’s members and partners can expect continuity and momentum. David LeDuc’s deep expertise in public policy and strategic operations has made him a central force in the NAI’s engagement with policymakers for years. Tony Ficarrotta’s command of legal and regulatory strategy as well as organizational governance has been foundational to how the NAI serves its members. Together, they bring complementary strengths and a shared commitment to the industry and the organization’s membership that position the NAI well for what’s ahead.
