Web Series | Privacy, Data and Measurement in Healthcare Part 4: Fast, Effective, and Private: Rethinking the Tradeoffs in Healthcare Advertising
There’s a persistent assumption in healthcare advertising that you can have speed or you can have privacy, but not both — measurement and optimization pulling one way, compliance pulling the other. That tension mostly disappears when privacy is engineered into the foundation rather than bolted on at the end. It starts with a conviction that healthcare advertising, done responsibly, is a patient-driven force that helps people find relevant treatments and information and supports better outcomes which is why participating in industry standards through organizations like the NAI reads as a natural extension of the mission, not a compliance obligation.
Self-regulation standards raise the floor across the industry, giving companies a shared reference point for responsible practice and giving patients confidence that innovation isn’t coming at the expense of their privacy.
The takeaway from this conversation which PurpleLab‘s General Counsel Andrew Lucking is a hopeful one: responsible healthcare advertising and strong privacy protection aren’t competing priorities to be balanced—build the foundation well, and they advance together.
